Brooklyn Branch Suggestions for NYC Charter Revision Ballot Proposals

The Brooklyn Branch of the NAACP Suggests the Following:

Vote ‘“NO” to Question #1 NYC Elections. Do not establish Ranked -Choice Voting (RCV). Do not increase the time to fill an election vacancy. Do not change the timeline for city council redistricting. -This proposal changes the winner take all system we currently use. There is no plan to educate voters. It adds bureaucracy to voting. It’s untested in a diverse place like New York City. There is no funding allocated to implement the changes to our voting system.

Vote “YES” to Question #2 Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB). Expand protections to eliminate police misconduct and abuse.

Vote “YES” to Question #3 Ethics and Government. Amend rules related to Conflicts of Interest Board and MWBE’s.

Vote “YES” to Question #4 City Budget. Support rainy day fund, Public Advocate and Borough President Budgets, and Mayoral budget deadlines.

Vote “Yes” to Question #5 Land Use. Amend the city charter to adjust the time for the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) process.
