JOB POST: Census 2020 Neighborhood Organizers ($17 per hour)
The Brooklyn NAACP seeks Census 2020 Neighborhood Organizers to advance our Count My Block campaign by communicating with residents and business owners in hard to count census tracts about the importance of the Census, the kind of information gathered, the way that data is used, and explain how to complete and submit the Census form. Specifically, the Brooklyn NAACP Neighborhood Organizers will:
Provide information to community organizations (i.e. churches, neighborhood associations, etc.) about the importance of completing the 2020 Census, especially for communities of African descent;
Organize and attend neighborhood and local events to help promote census
Develop partnerships with various agencies, local businesses and community groups to communicate the need to increase the numbers of people who complete the Census, particularly in hard to count areas;
Support Brooklyn NAACP Census Justice social media campaigns;
Communicate project developments regularly with the Census 2020 Neighborhood Coordinator
Position Requirements:
Knowledge and Community Connections in the designated HTC Neighborhood;
Experience in community organizing, direct outreach or campaign work;
Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
Proficient in the use of technology such as laptop computers, tablets and smartphones for online organizing tools;
Attentive to details; and
Ability to work independently and also collaboratively with others, maintaining a positive, professional attitude
Social media presence and usage
Commitment to racial and social justice movements
